Overview
This is session two of a four part series. This session will review the history of buprenorphine; compare the therapeutic indices and recognize the difference in full agonist opioids and partial agonist opioids and determine why partial agonist ligands are generally preferred for chronic use over full agonist for long-term receptor activation.

ACCME Objectives
  1. Review the history of buprenorphine.
  2. Have an increased knowledge in the history of buprenorphine and it's importance.
  3. Compare the therapeutic indices and recognize the difference in full agonist opioids and partial agonist opioids.
  4. Recognize why partial agonists ligands are generally preferred for chronic use over full agonist for long-term receptor activation.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Self-report knowledge gain in the therapeutic indices and the difference of full opioid agonist and partial opioid agonist and why it matters.
  2. Self-report understanding of why partial agonist ligands are generally preferred for chronic use over full agonist for long-term receptor activation.
